Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has claimed that Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in signing Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian, who is expected to start for his country in their crucial World Cup clash against Senegal today, is a wanted man. He has been brilliant for Brighton since the start of this campaign, and it looks like it’s only a matter of time before gets a move to a big club.

Journalist says Moises Caicedo is on Liverpool’s wish list alongside Jude Bellingham

It’s no secret at all at this point that Liverpool will try to sign a top-quality central midfielder in 2023.

The Reds have had an awful season so far. They’ve won just six of their 14 Premier League games so far and are already 15 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

It would take a miracle to get back into the title race now, but if they can sign a brilliant midfielder, they could well be back to where they have been in recent years – near the top.

Bellingham is a name that has been linked with a move to Liverpool for a while now, but Plettenberg has claimed that Caicedo is on Jurgen Klopp’s transfer wish list too.

However, the Reds face competition from Manchester United and a number of other clubs who have watched the Ecuador international play for Brighton and at the World Cup.

The Sky Sports journalist tweeted: “News #Caicedo: #MUFC is planning to enter the race! Bosses highly interested. Also on the list of #LFC – next to Bellingham – & spotted by many other top clubs.

“Teammates say he is an “exceptional player & character.“ Brighton hopes that he will stay beyond 2023.”

TBR View:

Caicedo has made a phenomenal name for himself at Brighton.

The Ecuadorian, still only 21, joined the Seagulls from Independiente del Valle in his home country in February 2021. He spent the first half of last season in Belgium at Beerschot, but it’s only since the final few weeks of the previous campaign that he started to catch the eye.

Since the start of this season, however, he has been phenomenal. He’s definitely one of Brighton’s best players, and it’s no surprise at all that clubs like Liverpool and Manchester United are keen to sign him.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with Caicedo in the next two transfer windows. Wherever he ends up, it is likely he’ll be a fine player for them.
