Jurgen Klopp may not plan on having a say in who Liverpool appoint as his successor, but you would imagine that the Reds hierarchy will certainly value his opinion on the contenders for his job when he steps aside in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp stunned the football world this week by announcing that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the campaign.

Unsurprisingly, several names have been mentioned in connection with the job. And one of those who has admirers at Liverpool, according to a report from The Athletic, is Thomas Frank.

Jurgen Klopp impressed by Thomas Frank earlier this season amid Liverpool links

Frank has done a phenomenal job at Brentford. It was the Dane who got them across the line in the Championship promotion race. And they have finished in mid-table in both of their Premier League seasons so far.

It says a lot about how good the Bees have been that this year marks probably the first time that they have been suggested as potential outsiders in the relegation battle.

Liverpool actually beat Brentford 3-0 at Anfield earlier this season. Nevertheless, Klopp suggested afterwards to Sky Sports, that Frank’s side definitely made life uncomfortable for the Reds.

“Top performance, top result, super difficult opponent,” he said. “Whatever happens on the pitch, they will have a set-piece and if they have one, how horrible is that? And then outside of set-pieces, they have really good ideas.

“The chances they had in the first half, I can’t remember who played the pass for Mbeumo, but the whole situation, oh my god, these things could have happened much more often.

“These moments, horrible. Couldn’t respect it any more, but they’re horrible. But to put a performance like that on the pitch is really special.”

Brentford boss not a marquee name, but deserves to be considered

Frank is potentially not the superstar name that some Liverpool fans may be hoping for. Klopp has elevated the Reds during his tenure. And there is a chance that his successor could be taking over the Premier League champions.

But Klopp has approached the role with as much humility as is possible for a world-class manager. So Liverpool may not yet want to rule out anyone simply because they are unproven at the very highest level.

And Frank is someone who may well be in the early stages of a long and successful managerial career.
