Liverpool have completed their first new signing for the 2024-25 season as Italian international Federico Chiesa arrives from Juventus in a £10M deal.
It’s taken a little bit longer than many fans might have liked, but Liverpool have today officially made their first signing of the summer for the 2024-25 season after moving quickly to secure Federico Chiesa from Juventus in a shock £10M deal.
“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player,” Chiesa said of the done deal. “When Richard Hughes called and said, Do you want to join Liverpool? I said yes immediately. I know the history of this club, I know what it represents, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Chiesa has been regularly linked with the reds going back at least six summers now, and the 26-year-old’s arrival sees the Reds acquire a a talented, tenacious attacker capable of playing in any of the four most advanced positions in Arne Slot’s system.
It’s not a signing without question marks, though, with the player suffering a serious ACL injury in 2021 that saw him miss an entire season and then spend much of 2022-23 struggling with secondary injuries as he worked to rebuild his fitness.
In 2023-24 he made 37 total appearances for 2,500 minutes, suggesting he might be over those injury issues, and if he can match that this season for Liverpool he will be an invaluable addition to one of the deepest and most talented attacks in Europe.
