217 Journalist Jonathan Northcroft has shared why one of his contacts was left completely stunned by Arne Slot as the Dutchman prepares to take over at Liverpool this summer.
Arne Slot has been handed one of the toughest jobs in world football right now, as he will indeed be the man to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
Slot has won a lot of admirers with his work at Feyenoord, winning the Eredivisie title in 2023, and his name received a warm reception during Klopp’s farewell game at the weekend.
But of course, it is a gamble for the Reds to turn to the 45-year-old, who is yet to manage outside of the Netherlands. Obviously, any choice would have been risky for Liverpool given how significant Klopp is to the people of Merseyside.

It remains to be seen if Slot is able to step into the role and thrive, but speaking on The Transfers Podcast, Northcroft shared how everything he is hearing about him is extremely positive.
“The gulf between that league and the Premier League has proved too much for a lot of coaches to bridge. That’s a drawback, but Arne Slot, I’m told, is just a bit different to the normal template of the Dutch coach which tends to be quite strong-willed and dogmatic. That he’s a really charismatic person, he’s a really bright person and capable of adapting,” he said.
“It was put to me his communication is off the scale; one of my contacts said that I’ve never heard a Dutch coach speak such good English, and that’s important.”

Liverpool fans will love to hear Northcroft’s comments about Slot’s capabilities. Ultimately, it is going to be imperative that Slot gets the balance right between paying tribute to Klopp’s tenure while also not trying to imitate the German upon his arrival.
Flawless communication skills will only help with that because there are going to be some, on the outside, ready to pounce on any possible mistake he makes.
What will also help is if Slot can get the best out of some of the outstanding players within the squad, and it seems that he has high hopes for one player who divides opinion.
Slot believes Darwin Nunez has extraordinary attributes and is excited to work with him.
It is clear what kind of potential Nunez has, but he has not been ruthless enough since moving to the Premier League.
So if Slot could be the coach to unlock his full potential, that will bode very well for what is to come from his tenure.
