‘Off the pace’: Mark Lawrenson says nothing is working for £34m Liverpool player right now

Mark Lawrenson believes Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah is not in form right now, and is another player ‘off the pace’.

Speaking on TalkSPORT (9/10 8:32am), Lawrenson was asked about how Liverpool’s season was going.

It’s been a tough start for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who already find themselves 13 points off the top of the table.

Klopp has already admitted he believes Liverpool’s title hopes are looking slim.

“Does it look at the moment that we will be champions at the end of the year?

Unfortunately, not.” Klopp said.

“But in all other competitions we’re not out yet. And nobody knows where we will end up in the league yet so let’s just give it a go.

“Difficult? Yes. Impossible? No. That’s enough. So, let’s just go from here.”

Klopp has not been helped by many of the players he’s relied on over the past several seasons struggling for form.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s has been heavily scrutinised this season, although he produced a moment of beauty against Rangers.

However, Mohamed Salah’s not in the form that Liverpool fans have seen from him in the last few seasons.

Lawrenson: Salah is not in form and looks ‘off the pace’

Speaking to TalkSPORT, Lawrenson said: “Take the likes of Salah, he’s just another one off the pace and at the moment everything he tries, nothing comes to fruition.

“He’s not suddenly become a bad player overnight, he’s probably frightened to death about the fact that Haaland’s already got so many goals, so he’s not going to win the Golden Boot.”

Salah’s numbers since arriving at Liverpool have been absolutely incredible.

The Egpytian has scored at least 19 league goals in every season he’s been at Anfield, since arriving for £34m from Roma.

However, he’s not hit those heights this campaign, and only scored twice in the league.

His three assists are in line with the sort of numbers seen from Salah in the past, but he will want to step up his production.

Salah’s Liverpool take on Arsenal this afternoon, and the 30-year-old has already had his say on whether he thinks the Gunners can win the title.

Salah will need to pick up his form if his side are going to come out of the game against the league leaders with a positive result.
