Liverpool will need a new manager this summer.
Jurgen Klopp has announced that he’s leaving at the end of the season, and many thought that when this day came, Steven Gerrard would be the man in line for this job.
Even Klopp himself named Gerrard as a future Liverpool manager, but now that the time has come, the 43-year-old isn’t likely to be in the mix.
After a poor spell at Aston Villa and an expedition to Saudi Arabia, Gerrard’s managerial stock is as low as it ever has been, and he’s not likely to receive an approach from Liverpool this summer, it has to be said.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Gary McAllister has been discussing Gerrard’s managerial career, and it’s fair to say McAllister will know a fair bit about the Liverpool legend.
McAllister was, of course, Gerrard’s former assistant manager at Aston Villa, and he reckons that Gerrard still dreams of managing Liverpool one day.

McAllister spoke about his former colleague.
“I think it’s obviously a dream of Steven’s to get involved back at Liverpool, but he’s involved in a big project over in Saudi right now. Nobody loves Liverpool more than Steven, and I can understand why he’s not being mentioned,” McAllister said.
Not now
Gerrard may have aspirations of becoming the Liverpool manager one day, but there’s surely no chance he’s in line to get the job anytime soon.
Let’s be real, Gerrard’s managerial stock is through the floor at the moment. He’s struggling in Saudi Arabia – he’s not ready to manage a truly top club.
There is a part of us that would love to see Gerrard get his act together and re-establish himself as a top boss and work towards getting the Liverpool job, but, as things stand, he’s some way away from being a contender for this role.
