Sander Westerveld has put his backing behind Xabi Alonso in the race to be the next Liverpool manager.
The former Liverpool goalkeeper was speaking to The Redmen TV about the upcoming managerial vacancy at Anfield, and he says that Alonso would be a fantastic option for the Reds.
Westerveld says that Alonso is more than capable of handling the pressure of managing the Reds, claiming that his experience of playing for the biggest teams in the biggest competitions during his playing days has set him up well for this job.

Westerveld spoke about the Bayer Leverkusen manager.
“He played for all the big teams, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Liverpool, winning Champions Leagues, European Championships, World Championships with Spain. Nothing can hold him back from being an amazing coach at Liverpool. Everything is laid out for him he doesn’t need to build, just build on the structure we have with the youngsters and continue with the good work Jurgen has been doing,” Westerveld said.
Perfect
There may not be a manager in world football better suited to the Liverpool job than Xabi Alonso.
Alonso ticks so many boxes. He’s doing an incredible job at Bayer Leverkusen right now, he’s handled big pressure before in his playing career, and he’s already a club legend from his playing days.
Everything points towards Alonso being the perfect replacement for Klopp at Liverpool, but whether or not the Reds can get the Spaniard out of Bayer Leverkusen remains to be seen. After all, he’s got a great thing going at Bayer Leverkusen right now, and he may want to finish the job he has started by taking the German champions-elect into the Champions League next season.
