Liverpool made their first-half advantage pay yesterday, coming away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with an important 2-1 win.

Mohamed Salah stole the headlines with his two goals, but there were solid performances across the pitch from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Speaking to Jan Age Fjortoft for Viaplay Fotball after the match, Klopp reflected on his team’s victory.

Liverpool were ten point adrift of the top four going into the game, and a defeat would have made that gap incredibly difficult to bridge this season.

They faced a Spurs team in questionable form themselves, and capitalised on another slow start from Antonio Conte’s men.

Salah’s vicious shot in the first ten minutes put the Reds ahead after good work on the left from Andy Robertson and Darwin Nunez.

Fjortoft then commented to Klopp on what he did after Liverpool scored their second goal.

Klopp is never someone to hide his emotions on the touchline and his reaction didn’t go unnoticed yesterday.

Klopp’s reaction after Liverpool’s second goal

Salah doubled Liverpool lead just before half-time after a mistake from Eric Dier.

Dier couldn’t head Alisson Becker’s long ball to safety, and Salah pounced, dinking the ball over Hugo Lloris.

Fjortoft noticed Klopp’s reaction to Liverpool’s goal, which will certainly please the Brazilian goalkeeper.

“I will say there was a very concentrated Jurgen Klopp on the bench today,” Fjortoft said.

“On the goals, not the usual celebrations, on the second goal you were straight to Allisson to say thanks for the long ball.”

The Liverpool manager replied: “Tottenham this season is a team who are famous for their come-backs so at 2-0, you just think half-way through or whatever!

“It was clear I saw in some situations in the first-half already that they had a good chance to cause us massive problems in the second half and they did but we came through it.”

Alisson wasn’t officially credited with the assist, but Klopp was certainly pleased with his role in the goal.

Salah must love playing against Tottenham, as he’s now scored more goals against them than any other club.

He admitted after the match they’re always a tough team to play, even if he does normally pop up with a goal.

Alisson is no stranger to goal involvements, and assisted Salah’s goal against Manchester City this season.

Klopp will be hoping the Brazilian can continue to make a big contribution in both defence and attack.
