Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Liverpool will be without James Milner for this weekend’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur.
Milner was taken off in midweek with a head injury. The injury once again brought to light the game’s concussion protocols, after Emi Martinez had played on at the weekend.
Milner has played a key role for Liverpool once more this season. But speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham, Liverpool boss Klopp confirmed that Milner will indeed miss out due to concussion protocols.
“When you go through a concussion protocol you are not available for the next game because you go through different stages. He is fine. But that’s how it is and rightly so. You go through different stages and that means he is available for non-contact training on Monday, and full contact on Tuesday if everything goes well,” Klopp said to Sky Sports.

The Reds are looking to pick up a few wins before the World Cup. Already more or less out of the title race, a loss at Spurs would call into question their top four credentials too.
TBR’s View: Milner concussion a blow for Liverpool
Klopp says it himself here but there’s not a lot he can do and rightly so.
Player welfare is the most important aspect here. Milner was withdrawn with a head injury and with that comes procedures that have to be followed.
Of course, in such a big game, his experience will be a miss. Milner has been excellent at times despite his age and Liverpool’s poor start to the season. Indeed, Paul Merson lauded him as ‘unbelievable‘ for one performance recently.
Hopefully, there are no further complications and Milner is fine for next week.
Klopp, meanwhile, must be hoping the break hurries up. Injuries have ruined his season so far and this is just another example.
