Liverpool fans had every right to be worried when Mo Salah headed off to the African Cup of Nations earlier this month.
The Egyptian has been the Reds’ most important player all season long, and it was unclear how the Merseyside club’s attack would function without the winger.
However, after a fair period of time without Salah, the Reds have been just fine.
The Merseyside club are yet to lose a game during this period, and the goals have been flowing, largely thanks to the fact Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have massively stepped up.
Both attackers have been utterly brilliant in the absence of Salah, and speaking to Squawka, Glen Johnson has lavished praise upon Jota particularly, claiming that he’s proven many of his doubters wrong since arriving at Anfield.

The pundit spoke highly of the former Wolves man
“Jota’s a perfect example of how good the recruitment and Klopp’s development has been since he’s been manager. I think they signed him for around £40m, and people thought that was too much money, but now that looks cheap. Their recruitment has been great. Nobody thought Jota was going to be as good as he is, I wouldn’t even have said he was the best player at Wolves at the time, so the fact that they’ve got someone that was on the fringe at Wolves and turned him into a player that’s good enough to be a top player, it’s a perfect example of their recruitment,” Johnson said.
Stepped up
Johnson is absolutely right, Jota has really stepped up since arriving at Liverpool, and, to be honest, not many of us saw this coming.
In all honesty, Jota didn’t look like a top Premier League player at Wolves – he scored just seven league goals during his final season at Molineux, but since arriving at Liverpool, he’s gone to another level.
Liverpool have done a great job with Jota, they picked out a young player with tons of promise and then nurtured him to become the superstar he is today.
Jota may well be one of the best signings Liverpool have made in the modern era at just £40m.
