193 Liverpool winger Cody Gakpo paid tribute to Reds teammate Curtis Jones after the latter won the Player of the Match award on Wednesday night.
Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool ran out 5-1 winners over West Ham in their Carabao Cup quarter-final at Anfield to book a semi-final tie with Fulham.
Jones was pretty much flawless in the game, helping the Reds record an easy win against a Hammers side that rarely got out of second gear.
Aside from scoring two very well-taken goals, the 22-year-old was superb on and off the ball and is surely a shoo-in against Arsenal at the weekend.
After the match, Gakpo – who also got on the scoresheet – had some very kind words to say to Jones ahead of awarding him the MOTM accolade.
“Santa has come early! A quick word,” the Dutchman said on Sky Sports. “You work really hard.
“Nobody sees it because it is behind closed doors, but you deserve all the best. Keep going brother!”

It’s great to see such camaraderie from one Liverpool player to another. And Jones can certainly be proud of himself for his latest outing.
The £67,000-a-week ace (Salarysport) delivered one of his best performances of late against the Hammers. And he has already surpassed his goal and assist tally from last season.
With Alexis Mac Allister on the sidelines, he’ll fancy his chances of winning his place back in the Liverpool starting XI following time out of the team due to injuries and suspension.
Liverpool have laid the foundations for a potentially very fruitful season. They’re currently second in the Premier League table, in the last 16 of the Europa League and in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
On top of that, the Reds – as with all other Premier League teams – will enter the FA Cup at the third-round stage next month, where they’ll head to Arsenal.
