Brazilian side Flamengo want to sign Thiago Alcantara as Liverpool have ‘no interest’ in extending the midfielder’s stay at the club.

That’s according to Flamengo-dedicated journalist Julio Miguel Neto, who has revealed that the Brazilian club’s manager, Tite, has personally asked his side to sign Thiago from Liverpool this summer.

Liverpool have ‘no interest’ in keeping Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2020 in a deal worth £25 million including add-ons (Sky Sports).

The Spaniard was a star in Germany. He played 235 games for the Bavarians and won everything, including seven Bundesliga titles and also a Champions League.

Since moving to Liverpool, however, Thiago has had a ton of injury problems. He has missed 100 games for club and country since September 2020, which is such a shame.

The midfielder’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season. Jurgen Klopp and the club are apparently at odds over what to do about his future, but Neto has claimed on X that a decision has been made.

He has revealed that Liverpool have ‘no interest’ in keeping hold of Thiago, which means they want him to leave the club in the summer.

Flamengo are really keen to sign him, as are clubs in Europe and Saudi side Al-Ettifaq, who are managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

A part of Neto’s tweet reads: “The name of the “market opportunity”, (or one of the names) for the midfield sector, which Flamengo aims for and will be dealing with on this trip to Europe, is Thiago Alcantara from Liverpool.

“With the contract ending with the English, Alcântara still has a market in Europe, in addition to the Arab world which is a strong competitor. Al-Ettifaq from the Saudi League is one of those interested.

“The athlete has a contractual relationship with his current team until 06/30/24 and can even sign a pre-contract. Liverpool so far has no interest in maintaining him, which makes his departure less unlikely!”

Thiago has to leave Liverpool

When Thiago Alcantara is fit, he is one of the best midfielders around, but sadly for Liverpool, they just can’t count on him due to his injuries.

The Spaniard hasn’t played for the Reds since April last year. He has been out of action since, and it doesn’t look like he will be back soon either.

Liverpool are currently paying Thiago a salary of £200,000-a-week (Spotrac). That’s a lot of money, and it’s no surprise that they aren’t keen to extend his deal now.

The best thing for all parties in the summer would be to go their separate ways. Whether Thiago will choose to move to Flamengo in Brazil, however, remains to be seen.
