Mohamed Salah is one of the very best players in the Premier League these days, but the path to the top hasn’t been simple for the Liverpool star.
Indeed, while the Egyptian has been on top of the world for a number of years now, before his move to Anfield, he was far from a superstar.
Sadly, Salah carried the label of being a ‘flop’ around with him after a torrid spell at Chelsea, and while he managed to shake that off, he was thought to be a failure for quite some time.
Speaking on the Obi One podcast, John Terry has been discussing his initial view of Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, and he says he never thought either of those two players would go on to become stars.

The former Chelsea captain spoke about the 31-year-old.
“You mention Mo Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, you’d say on their day that’s the two best players in the Premier League right now, honestly, when you watched them back in the day did you envisage they would achieve what they have acheieved?” Terry was asked.
“Absolutely not, no chance. It’s my one disappointment as captain. I softened as the years went on, but when those guys were there I was very disciplined in the group and very strong. They probably needed an arm around the shoulder, a sit down and a discussion and maybe I could’ve helped them settle in. I’m disappointed in myself as a captain and it’s a regret I have. I wouldn’t have said they would’ve gone to the levels they would’ve gone to, no chance,” Terry said.
Who saw this coming?
Terry says that he never saw Salah becoming a star in this way, but, in all honesty, who did?
Salah was, with all due respect, nothing special at Chelsea, and it would’ve been fair to just write him off as a player who wasn’t cut out for the Premier League.
However, he’s come back to England and proven everyone wrong. He’s now arguably the best winger to ever play in this league, and he could well lead Liverpool to another title this season.
Nobody saw this coming, not least his Chelsea teammates at the time.
