'Never say never': David Ornstein shares what Liverpool are planning to do in the January window

David Ornstein has been discussing the January window and had some minor hope for Liverpool fans when it came to new signings.

The Reds are not expected to be overly busy in January. Of course, that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill getting into full swing and they have been linked with a host of players.

Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich is the biggest name to be linked. Manu Kone has also got a mention once again, while young French defender Leny Yoro continues to be mentioned.

Jurgen Klopp has remained bullish over his side’s hopes of new players, insisting everything has to fall into place and thus casting doubt on incomings.

However, David Ornstein has said that you should never count the Reds out.

David Ornstein shares what Liverpool are planning in January

Answering questions in his latest Q&A for The Athletic, Ornstein admitted that Liverpool might just spring something from somewhere.

“They’ve not been planning anything significant, John, but ever say never — we’ve learned that Liverpool can spring a surprise. Given the position the team are in, the quality at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal and the array of young players he can turn to, Liverpool look very competitive. They’ll look to strengthen again next summer. This is perhaps a more important period for contract talks than new signings. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all approaching the final 12 months of their deals,” Ornstein said.

Liverpool always come out of nowhere

They’ve done it so many times in the past that there’s simply no way to predict Liverpool’s business sometimes.

They landed Luis Diaz at the drop of a hate and Cody Gakpo also arrived without much fuss as well.

If the Reds are to sign someone, then you can bet it is being worked on in the background and only a few people will be aware of the talks.

Jurgen Klopp, deep down, will be hoping that a new player or two comes through the door.

But as Ornstein says, they are well prepped anyway so if it’s not to be, then they’ll wait till the summer.
