'Never going to happen': Chairman says Liverpool have absolutely no chance of signing 'amazing' player

Peterborough chairman and self-confessed Liverpool fan Darragh MacAnthony has commented on Anfield links to Jude Bellingham.

MacAnthony was speaking on the Hard Truth podcast about his boyhood club’s chase for England international Bellingham.

He has suggested that the Reds cannot match the wealth required to sign the Borussia Dortmund starlet, who looks set to move this summer.

MacAnthony thinks that Bellingham will join his former Dortmund teammate Erling Haaland at Manchester City when he makes his big switch.

MacAnthony on Bellingham to Liverpool

He said: “Do people seriously think Liverpool are signing Jude Bellingham? Get a grip!

“With Man City, Chelsea and the wealth out there, Real Madrid, you think Bellingham is going to Liverpool? Don’t waste your time on that one, it’s never going to happen.

“That boy, I think he’ll go to Man City, they’ll sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, Gundogan will go back to Germany and spend their money.”

There looks like quite the race forming for the midfielder, who was described by Gary Neville this week as ‘amazing‘, in the summer.

As MacAnthony says, the likes of City and Real Madrid can push the asking price skyward and Liverpool do not tend to go to those kinds of prices.

They signed Darwin Nunez but structured the deal in a favourable way in terms of instalments and clauses, but Bellingham could be a different kettle of fish altogether.
