‘My word’: BBC pundit left in awe of ‘outstanding’ 25-year-old Liverpool player

Pundit Stephen Warnock has now been waxing lyrical over one Liverpool player in the first half against Fulham today.

Warnock was following the game for the BBC and declared the technical ability of Trent Alexander-Arnold to be absolutely ‘outstanding’.

The pundit was of course commenting on Trent’s free kick which opened the scoring at Anfield.

And Warnock said that Trent justified some praise he had been receiving before the game.

He said: “My word what a strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

“We bigged him up before kick off for his technical abilities, and he has just shown them again here. This guy is an outstanding player.

“This is one of the best free-kicks you’ll see this season. Leno dives to his left hand side but is no way near it, the ball crashes in off the bar.”

Of course, most of the chat around Trent’s performances at Liverpool is usually concerning his newly-inverted role.

However, this was a strike that was purely down to the technical brilliance of the England international.

And Warnock certainly doesn’t think the Liverpool or Fulham fans will be forgetting the effort too quickly.

Although there will always be question marks over the gaps it leaves in defence, Trent’s offensive positioning is now causing sides a lot of issues.

The defender was finding brilliant pockets of space against Fulham early on and caused the visitors some real issues.

And with no international football until March for England now, it seems that Trent now has an extended period to audition for a start.

Gareth Southgate has shown a willingness to now use Trent in such a role, something that seemed reluctant in the past.

And Stephen Warnock will no doubt also point to the set-piece quality the Liverpool defender brings, as seen against Fulham.

There’s certainly a ton of positives to having Trent fully embedded in this England side, something that has surprisingly not happened at the age of 25.

And it would seem odd for England to ignore a genuinely world-class talent heading into another major tournament.

Moreover, on the subject of world-class players, Jurgen Klopp doesn’t think Trent is the only one in Liverpool’s back line.
