Xabi Alonso shocked by Jurgen Klopp leaving

Jacobs shared what he knows about the Spaniard.

“When Alonso learnt there was a Liverpool vacancy, my understanding is that his surprise was genuine. This wasn’t some covert game of focusing on Leverkusen and then walking into Liverpool. He was as shocked as everyone about the vacancy, which tells you he did not know it was a possibility until Klopp revealed his news.

Shocking

Klopp leaving Liverpool was genuinely one of the best kept secrets in world football.

It’s very rare for a story like this to be kept under wraps these days, but somehow, Liverpool managed to keep absolutely everybody in the dark.

There were no hints, no leaks and no reports before the official news broke, and that left everyone in the footballing world shocked, even Alonso.

Alonso will have had to collect his thoughts quickly after Klopp decided he was leaving, knowing the media storm that was about to ensue, but he’s handled it brilliantly with his Leverkusen team remaining unbeaten through this time.

Whether or not Alonso does end up replacing Klopp at Liverpool remains to be seen.
