‘My one concern’: Graeme Souness now predicts who’ll win the Carabao Cup final - Chelsea or Liverpool

9 months ago 128

Graeme Souness has backed Liverpool to beat Chelsea in the League Cup final this weekend, despite concerns over recent injuries.

Jurgen Klopp’s men denied Chelsea two pieces of silverware during the 2021-22 campaign by beating the London giants in both domestic cup finals.

Both victories came via penalty shootouts and Mauricio Pochettino’s men will undoubtedly be seeking revenge on Sunday at Wembley.

Chelsea head into the game in improved form after picking up two wins from their last three games in all competitions.

As for Liverpool, they bounced back from the defeat at Arsenal with wins over Burnley and Brentford.

Yet, journalist Dominic King suggested today that Jota could be facing two months on the sidelines through injury, while Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones could also miss the final.

Despite the injury setbacks, Graeme Souness is backing his former side to life the Carabao Cup this weekend.

Souness backs Liverpool to beat Chelsea in League Cup final

Souness was asked whether this Sunday could be the game where Pochettino ends his long wait for silverware in England.

“No. What do you expect me to say? I’m a Liverpool supporter,” Souness told talkSPORT

“Listen, it’s not a done deal. Of course, they have a chance. For me, it’s a 60/40 game. I think Liverpool will win.

“That’s even without the boys who went off injured. That’s my one concern for Liverpool.

“They’ve got an abundance of strikers and even guys that change games when they’re not playing well.”

Chelsea will certainly fancy their chances after some improved performances in recent weeks.

Pochettino’s side also picked up a 1-1 draw at Manchester City over the weekend and will head into Sunday’s final full of confidence.

Yet, Liverpool thrashed the Blues 4-1 last month when the two sides met at Anfield.

While we believe the final will be much closer, it’s hard to look past Klopp’s side, even without a few key players.
