Coming to the Premier League can be a daunting task for any player, but coming to the Premier League to make your debut against Liverpool is something else entirely.
Indeed, if there’s any team you don’t want to come up against in your first game in this league, it’s Jurgen Klopp’s Reds, but, unfortunately for Yves Bissouma, that’s the exact task he faced when he debuted for Brighton a few years ago.
Speaking to Tottenham’s YouTube channel, Bissouma has shared the story of how he had to make his debut against Jurgen Klopp’s side on his debut, and he was a bit overawed by the fact he was coming up against some of world football’s biggest stars on that day.
Bissouma says that he was a bit starstruck by both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, claiming that they were two of his idols back when he used to watch the Premier League in France.

The midfielder spoke about idolising Liverpool’s £34m winger.
“During that match I came out of the locker room and I saw Van Dijk, I saw Mane, I saw Salah. These were the guys I saw on TV when I was in France, and now I was in the same tunnel going up against them, it was like a dream, do you know what I mean? Mane and Salah were my idols, and I just thought ‘woah’. My heart was beating fast,” Bissouma said.
Daunting
We can understand why Bissouma was overwhelmed when making his Premier League debut.
The step up from Ligue 1 to the Premier League is steep, and when you see absolute legends of the game like Salah lining up against you, you’re bound to get a bit jittery.
Of course, it didn’t take Bissouma long to get to grips with things, and now he’s one of the best players in the league that other debuting stars probably fear.
