Liverpool have had some truly legendary players come through Anfield over the past 10 years.
The likes of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are all bona fide club legends at this point, and it’s hard to choose a favourite from this bunch of icons.
Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, John Barnes has been discussing Liverpool’s recent success, and he says that his favourite player from this era is actually Roberto Firmino.

The Liverpool legend spoke about the £29m man and how much he loves him.
“The withdrawn centre-forward was my favourite player of Liverpool over the past 10 years, that’s Bobby Firmino, Salah and Mane did what they did because of Bobby Firmino. Now all of a sudden we have a different centre-forward, the midfield is different and Mo’s role is different, so it’s a transitional period,” Barnes said.
Incredible
Firmino may have now left Liverpool, but every single fan must still have a soft spot for the Brazilian.
Firmino was such a unique player, he almost reinvented his position during his time as a false nine in the Premier League, and the way he played was just so joyful.
He’d try things that many players couldn’t even dream of doing, and he helped both Mane and Salah become superstars.
Make no mistake about it, Salah wouldn’t be the player he is today if it weren’t for that time alongside Firmino, and, ultimately, that may be Firmino’s Anfield legacy.
Firmino never won a Player of the Year or Golden Boot award, but for a period, he was undoubtedly the Reds’ most important player, and, perhaps more importantly, he was definitely the most entertaining and exciting player in Jurgen Klopp’s side.
We can absolutely understand why Barnes is such a big fan of Firmino.
