'My expectation is': FSG and Edwards could sell £34m Liverpool man even if he wants to stay - journalist

With just a few months left of the season and a not long until the summer transfer window opens, Liverpool will be one of the clubs making plans.

The Reds had a fruitful summer in 2023. The club moved on a number of ageing players and brought in new signings like Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister, who have flourished this season.

Of course, one of the keys for Liverpool in the summer was also keeping hold of Mo Salah. The £34m forward had interest from Saudi Arabia but in the end, both player and club resisted.

But with Michael Edwards coming back this summer and Salah 32 next, journalist Dean Jones has suggested that this time, Liverpool could well cash in.

Liverpool could sell Mo Salah

Speaking for GiveMeSport, Jones says that while Salah is happy to remain at Anfield, FSG and Michael Edwards might well be tempted if the right offer comes.

“A lot of people will want to know what is going to happen around the new contracts. The future of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold is obviously hugely important, but those players need to know who will be in charge first. Once this managerial situation progresses, we will get a clearer picture of where the three of them stand. My expectation is that none of them will push to leave, but Liverpool will have a decision to make over Salah. I think he is more than happy to stay, but another big offer could be more intriguing to the club this time,” Jones said.

Clarity needed on Salah

Liverpool can’t have another summer where there’s the ‘will he, won’t he’ around Mo Salah and his potential leaving the club.

This comment from Jones is interesting in that it suggests there might be some wiggle room from the Liverpool end when it comes to Salah. And with Jurgen Klopp also going, Salah himself might end up seeing it as the ideal time to go if he gets wind the club doesn’t mind either way.

Regardless, Liverpool need to be clear on this from the get go. If Salah is to be sold, it needs doing quickly so everyone can move on and a replacement be found.
