Alisson Becker has picked up an injury at Liverpool.
The Brazilian is set for a spell on the sidelines, and that means that Caoimhin Kelleher will have to deputise in goal for the Reds for a while now.
The Irishman, with all due respect, isn’t as good as Alisson, and speaking on ESPN, Steve Nicol has noted that he’s very concerned by the idea of the 25-year-old starting key games for Liverpool as they try to win the Premier League title.

The pundit shared his verdict on this situation.
“The one thing that sticks out to me is that when you have a goalkeeper like Alisson he can pull off a big save at the right time to get you three points, and I don’t think Kelleher is in that bracket. If we talk about between now and the end of the season, if Kelleher is in goal you lose two or three points and those are two or three points you can’t afford to lose, that’s my biggest worry. It’s not that Kelleher is a bad goalkeeper, he’s just not at the same level as Alisson,” Nicol said.
Worrying
Nicol has every right to be worried here.
As he says, Kelleher isn’t a bad goalkeeper, but Liverpool will have to be punch perfect from now until the end of the season if they are to win the league.
Kelleher does have a mistake or two in him – he showed that against Fulham earlier this season, and while two late goals saved his skin on that day, he won’t always be so lucky.
The fact that Liverpool will be without Alisson for this key period is concerning, and Kelleher will have to be at his very best if Liverpool are to win the league this season.
