The club’s plans are for the forward to stay through at least next season with plans to negotiate a new contract.

As disappointing as the end of the 2023-24 season has been for Liverpool fans, one would expect it has been rather more so for players and coaches at the club, and a hint of that disappointment was seen late on Saturday at West Ham as star Mohamed Salah became heated with manager Jürgen Klopp on the touchline.

A disappointing end for the Klopp era—at least compared to the storybook on so many had allowed themselves to for a time believe in—and a heated moment, though, doesn’t mean Salah’s career in Red is coming to its end, too. Instead, the club are signalling this week that Salah remains in their plans for at least next season.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool are not interested in moving on from their superstar winger despite his turning 32 in the summer, having one year left on his contract, and last summer’s Saudi Pro League interest. For their part, the Saudis are said to believe Salah intends to stay at Liverpool this summer.

A new contract is also in the club’s plans for the player, though it does not appear to be a priority, signalling that the club is likely comfortable heading into Salah’s final season of his current contract and seeing how things develop for the player under new manager Arne Slot before all parties again look towards the future.

While Salah’s form hasn’t been at his usual best following an injury at the Africa Cup of Nations, all signs before then were that the Egyptian winger remains one of the very best players in all of football and the consensus was that it appeared he could continue to deliver at the highest level for the foreseeable future.
