Yossi Benayoun has suggested that Steven Gerrard could be a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager this summer.
The Anfield legend was once tipped to eventually become manager of the Reds after coaching Liverpool’s youth sides before enjoying a successful spell on the touchline with Rangers.
However, Gerrard’s managerial career has since hit bump after bump after a failed stint at Aston Villa, with the former Liverpool captain now coaching in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ettifaq.

“If they can bring someone like Xabi, or — and this might be a surprise — someone like Steven Gerrard, one of them will continue what Klopp has built because they know the club.
“Xabi is a good friend of mine and I can see why people are speaking about him as a Liverpool manager. It didn’t work well at Aston Villa for Stevie, but he did a great job in Scotland. He deserves a chance to be coach at Liverpool for what he did in his career.”
Liverpool replacing Jurgen Klopp with Steven Gerrard would be outrageous
Photo by Visionhaus/Getty ImagesIt wasn’t too long ago when there was genuine hope from Liverpool fans that Gerrard would be the man to one day replace Klopp on the dugout at Anfield.
Yet in the year 2024, it appears that such a fantasy will never come true, with the former England international’s managerial career seemingly over before it really had a chance to become.
Things could have been different had Gerrard remained at Rangers, yet for Liverpool, there’s almost a 100% chance that the former Anfield captain isn’t being considered to replace Klopp this summer.
