Micah Richards claims 30-year-old Liverpool player is actually better than Paolo Di Canio

Micah Richards has been ranking some of the best players to ever be relegated from the Premier League.

Over the years some truly fantastic players have been relegated from the English top flight.

Indeed, some top players have played for some poor teams. The likes of James Maddison, Roy Keane and even Joe Cole have all suffered the indignity of being relegated from the top-flight.

Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has been discussing some of the best players to ever be relegated in the Premier League, and he’s made an interesting claim about one Liverpool player.

Micah Richards says Liverpool player is better than Paolo Di Canio

Andrew Robertson made Richards’ top 10 in this podcast, and interestingly he placed eighth in his list ahead of James Ward-Prowse and Paolo Di Canio.

Now, you probably won’t find many who would argue that Ward-Prowse is better than Robertson, but the Di Canio debate is an interesting one.

Andrew Robertson vs Paolo Di Canio

These are two players we never thought we’d be comparing.

An industrious full-back vs a maverick striker, these two are entirely different as players, but, as Richards says, we’d say that Robertson just about edges this.

In terms of natural ability, there’s an argument to make for Di Canio, but in terms of achievements within the game, especially in the Premier League, Robertson is way ahead.

Robertson has won all there is to win in England, and while Di Canio had a glittering career back in Italy, winning trophies with both Juventus and AC Milan, he doesn’t quite have the same CV as Robertson.

Robertson may well go down as one of the best left-backs in the history of the Premier League, while Di Canio is nowhere near that conversation in terms of his own position.
