‘Mentioned to me’: James Pearce says he’s been told Liverpool really like 50-year-old manager

Liverpool are on the lookout for a new manager.

After Jurgen Klopp’s bombshell announcement on Friday, the Reds have to turn their attention to who will replace the German at Anfield.

Of course, there’s been plenty of chat about the likes of Xabi Alonso and Roberto De Zerbi as of late, but there’s a more left-field choice who has a few admirers within Anfield right now.

Indeed, according to James Peace, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Thomas Frank is someone who is very much admired on Merseyside, claiming that people within Liverpool really like what he’s managed to do on a limited budget.

Liverpool admire Frank

Pearce spoke about the 50-year-old.

“This is down to FSG and the direction they want to go. De Zerbi has to be part of the conversation, Postecoglou has been mentioned but it’s very early in his reign at Tottenham and someone mentioned to me how much they admire Thomas Frank’s work at Brentford on a limited budget,” Pearce said.

Surely not

Frank has done a very good job over a number of years at Brentford, but we can’t see this one coming to fruition.

Not only is Frank unproven at the top level, his tactics look like they have now been figured out in the Premier League.

It’s not as though Brentford are flying high right now, they’re not too far away from being in a relegation battle, and you don’t get the Liverpool job off the back of this type of form.

Frank is a good manager who would do a fantastic job for many clubs in the Premier League, but to replace Jurgen Klopp, you need to be the best of the best, and we just can’t say that Frank is that man right now.

It would be a huge shock if Frank got the Liverpool job, that’s for sure.
