Liverpool seem to be faltering at the worst possible moment.
The Reds have hit a tough patch of form, and while they’re still very much in the race to win the Premier League, it’s hard to fancy Liverpool to get the job done after their past few results.
They’re out of the FA Cup, they’re almost out of Europe, and they failed to beat Manchester United at the weekend.
Thursday’s loss to Atalanta was a tough one to take, and after the game, there was an inquest.
Many of Liverpool’s key players underperformed on the day, and according to David Thompson, one player in particular looks to be mentally fatigued.

Speaking on the Official Liverpool Podcast, Thompson noted that Darwin Nunez is looking mentally fatigued at the moment.
“I think the performance was still there physically, but I think mentally we looked mentally fatigued today and we ran out of ideas around the box, and that’s not us. The warning signs were there on Sunday. Particularly with Darwin Nunez, he’s giving you the physical output, but he’s not giving you the instinct he normally has around the box and I think sometimes it’s just a bit of mental fatigue,” Thompson said.
Darwin Nunez may need to be taken out of the team
Darwin Nunez is a fantastic player when he’s filled with confidence, but, at the moment, he looks like he’s off the pace.
With Diogo Jota back fit and available for selection, it may be wise to take Nunez out of the firing line for a little while and give him some time to regroup and get his head together.
You need to be absolutely dialled in if you’re going to lead your team to a Premier League title as a striker, but the £70m man isn’t quite on that wavelength right now.
