LFCW appear to be realistic competitors for a top three finish in the FAWSL that could see them in the Champions League.

Liverpool Women got back to their winning ways in rather convincing fashion on Sunday, following up a disappointing loss at Chelsea by hammering Leicester City 4-0 and looking full value for the lopsided scoreline.

“Delighted!” was manager Matt Beard’s immediate reaction to the big win. “The amount of chances that we’ve been creating and today to score four goals—and we could have scored more. So I’m really pleased going into the international break.”

While last week’s loss to Chelsea suggests Beard’s Reds aren’t quite ready to compete for the league title, they now sit a very respectable fifth with 14 points after eight games—and are likely already safe from relegation.

They’re also well in the fight to finish in the top three, which would mean at least qualifying for the Champions League playoffs, a target few would have had at the start of the season but that today sits just two points beyond them.

Next up, they host last-place Bristol City on Sunday, December 10th in a game they will be heavily favoured in before returning to FAWSL Cup group stage action with a road derby match against Everton set for the 13th.
