Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez might divide opinion among some but Paul Merson has been lauding the Uruguayan’s impact today.

Nunez hit the woodwork on a number of occasions v Chelsea last time out but ended up still having a huge impact on the game in general.

The striker has scored 11 goals himself this term but there remains a doubt among some that he can ever go on to become the striker who scores 30+ for Liverpool.

However, Paul Merson has insisted that Nunez is doing just fine and admitted that he’d be in his starting XI every single game.

Paul Merson praises Darwin Nunez

Speaking on Sky’s Soccer Saturday about Nunez earlier today, former Arsenal man Merson admitted he loves the Liverpool forward.

“Any time, and I say that because he doesn’t hide. He does not hide. The biggest compliment I can give him. People miss chances and you see them never getting in the box. The balls goes wide and they’re on the edge of the box waiting for a pull-back. But even then when he’s hit the post three times and a missed a penalty, he’s still in there. He’s the one bursting a gut to get in there. For me, he gets in my team every day of the week because he is a handful. He’s willing to run, he makes runs, he’s a team player. For me, I hope it clicks for him. I say that though, he’s got 11 goals and playing for a team going for the quadruple. He’s doing something right, I’m a big fan of his. Takes a lot of character not to hide and he doesn’t. He’s a midfielder’s dream as well, he stretches the defence and gives the likes of Mac Allister more time on the ball. So he’s a massive piece for them, massive,” Merson said.

Nunez is a class act

Despite those calls from certain people about him not scoring enough goals and things like that, it cannot be suggested Darwin Nunez has no impact for Liverpool.

The big striker is a constant menace and as Merson points out here, the fact he keeps on getting in positions is admirable in itself.

Nunez is on course to become a bit of a legend at Liverpool and already has cult-hero status.

If he can start to add those extra goals to his game then any doubt will soon disappear and Liverpool will have one of the best forwards in world football on their hands.
