'Makes no sense': Jenas absolutely stunned 'shocking' 37th minute moment from Liverpool player v Forest

It was another hugely frustrating afternoon for Liverpool today at Nottingham Forest as they once again lost ground on the top two.

The Reds simply couldn’t get going against a dogged and determined Forest side, roared on by a home crowd clearly intent on seeing their side see off one of the giants of the league. Taiwo Awoniyi’s goal sent the home crowd into raptures, and Liverpool couldn’t quite find a way back in despite a number of good chances.

One of those big chances came before Awoniyi had even scored, when Virgil van Dijk blew a golden opportunity to score when he opted to head back across goal from a James Milner cross. And commentating on the issue at the time, BT Sport’s Jermaine Jenas was stunned by Van Dijk’s decision.

“That makes no sense whatsoever what he’s just done there. I originally thought he’s headed mis-headed it and that’s why it went in that direction. But that’s where he’s headed it. Shocking decision,” Jenas said on BT comms.

Van Dijk had a number of decent chances throughout the game as well. Dean Henderson made a huge save near the end as well to deny the Dutchman, and it was a case of it just not being the defender’s day.

TBR’s View: What Was Van Dijk Doing With This Miss

Jenas was right to be baffled here. What on earth was Van Dijk thinking? All he had to do was nod it goalwards and it was basically in the back of the net.

Instead, he tried to be clever and lay in Harvey Elliott and in the end, it’s proved massively costly.

Liverpool should have had a goal today but credit to Nottingham Forest, who played well and battled hard the entire game.
