Robbie Earle has compared one Liverpool player with Paul Scholes following his performance for the Reds in their impressive win over Brentford at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp’s men kept themselves top of the Premier League table with a 4-1 victory over the Bees at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Alexis Mac Allister was again given the chance to play slightly further forward against the Bees, with Wataru Endo keeping his place in the starting lineup.

And the 25-year-old went on to score one of the goals in the emphatic win over Thomas Frank’s side.

But speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Earle suggested that Mac Allister reminded everyone exactly why Liverpool decided to bring him to the club in the summer. And he suggested that he saw shades of a Premier League legend in the win over Brentford.
“If Endo does hold and Mac Allister is allowed play more as an eight and get forward, we’ve seen at Brighton that he can add another dimension,” he said.
“Lovely, clever feet. As I was watching it, I wrote a note down and I wouldn’t say he’s the same, but he’s got a bit of the Paul Scholes about him around the box. Those neat and tidy give and goes, turning balls around the corner and hard to pick-up, which as I say, would absolutely give Liverpool another dimension.”
Reds may be about to see best of summer signing
Mac Allister has had to be patient since arriving on Merseyside. But Endo seems to have got better and better since also joining in the summer. So that may now help bring the best out of the Argentinian.
And his importance to the side may only increase as Liverpool continue to deal with a number of injuries.
But Saturday’s performance suggests that it is going to take a lot to knock the Reds off their stride in the title race.
