211 Darwin Nunez is improving on what seems to be a weekly basis at the moment.
The Uruguayan is finally settling in at Anfield, and it looks as though Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching at international level has done him a favour or two as well.
Nunez still has a long way to go if he is to justify his £85m pricetag, but he’s certainly moving in the right direction now.
Speaking to Squawka, Glen Johnson has been discussing the striker and his development, and he reckons that the Liverpool forward could well go on to become one of Europe’s elite strikers.
Nunez could become elite
Johnson gave his verdict on the attacker.
“I think Nunez could absolutely become one of Europe’s elite. He impressed me a lot last year even when he wasn’t scoring, because he was still a threat. You always worry about the strikers that not only aren’t scoring but aren’t affecting the game elsewhere, which you could never say was true of Nunez. Of course he does miss chances, but he creates for his teammates, he’s a threat to defenders. He’s a fantastic player and looks the real deal,” Johnson said.
Most of the way there
Johnson isn’t wrong, Nunez could become an elite player, because he’s most of the way there already.
So much about his game is top-notch. His movement, positioning, speed, strength and aggression are incredible, but he just lacks composure at times.
Sadly, composure is probably the most important thing a striker can possess, but he is improving on that front, and with the right coaching from Jurgen Klopp, he should be able to overcome that issue.
Nunez has what it takes to make it to the very top, and we wouldn’t be shocked if he continued improving at this rate and became a world-class striker.
