Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of Curtis Jones to the Reds media team.

The 21-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League or Champions League this season due to injury.

Jones’ only game time so far this season was a small cameo in the Community Shield win over Manchester City.

However, the Anfield academy graduate made the bench against Pep Guardiola’s side in the league last week.

It was only the second time Jones had featured in a competitive matchday squad in 2022-23.

Speaking ahead of the West Ham clash, Klopp said Jones “looks really good in training”.

However, he stressed that the Liverpool gem needs more sessions under his belt before he can return to action.

“Curtis was on the bench – it was clear we will not bring him on, we just had space,” Klopp told the Reds media team.

“He’s in training, looks really good in training but needs further training until he’s really available.

“He could be a step closer now after two days but didn’t train yesterday, so maybe half a step closer.”

Jones may only be 21, but he’s already got 75 competitive appearances for Liverpool under his belt.

He is one of the best players to come through the academy ranks in recent years.

And with the unfortunate injuries to Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, Jones’ seemingly imminent return has come at a good time.
