Ian Wright has suggested on The Kelly & Wrighty Show that Cody Gakpo would have been an ideal signing for Arsenal if they could bring in any player this month, while he backed the Gunners making a move for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Liverpool made the first major statement ahead of the January transfer window. The Reds have completed a £35 million deal for the Dutchman, who was in sensational form for club and country this season.

He has scored 13 goals and contributed 17 assists for PSV. Meanwhile, he scored three goals at the World Cup.
Certainly, there is the potential for the deal to prove to be an absolute masterstroke.

Wright has suggested that he would be very happy if Mudryk ended up at the Emirates. However, it was another player who came to mind first when he was asked if he could have anyone.
“Gakpo’s gone, because you look at him. I think Mudryk, if they can get him, that’s the kind of signing you get in now,” he told The Kelly & Wrighty Show.
It says a lot about how highly Arsenal rate Mudryk that they were seemingly happy to stay out of the race for Gakpo.
Of course, there is a risk to the Reds landing the Dutchman. Some players who arrive from the Eredivisie really struggle to take that next step.
But Mudryk would be joining from Shakhtar Donetsk. He has played – and shone – in the Champions League this term. But he would not be arriving from one of Europe’s major domestic leagues.
Nevertheless, Arsenal have already seen a £55 million bid for him rejected. And they have returned with an improved offer. So they are ready to pay a lot more than Liverpool did for Gakpo.
Should they get a deal done, it will be interesting to see who is left happier with their particular signing.
