154 Liverpool are currently on the lookout for a new manager ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s expected departure from Anfield this summer.
The Reds have been heavily linked with Xabi Alonso, who enjoyed a fruitful spell at Anfield during his playing days.
However, Liverpool are set to be up against Bayern Munich, another of Alonso’s former clubs with an impending vacancy in the dugout.
Now, a report from Sky Sport Germany has suggested that the Bayer Leverkusen manager favours a move to Liverpool ahead of Bayern.
The report claims that the Reds are in ‘first place’ in Alonso’s personal ranking. Meanwhile, Bayern are third, behind Real Madrid.
And while the 42-year-old was ‘evasive’ when asked about potentially replacing Klopp, Sky say he’d like the job more than taking charge of Leverkusen’s title rivals.

If true, this is fantastic news for Liverpool. To hear that Alonso seemingly favours a switch to the Reds ahead of Bayern means they have a good chance of landing him.
Obviously it’ll be a difficult race for the ‘special‘ manager’s services, since Liverpool are up against another elite club, but they’ll certainly fancy their chances.
At the same time, you can’t rule out Leverkusen themselves. Apparently, they haven’t lost hope of keeping him.
They reportedly believe that Alonso is grateful to the club and could show some loyalty to them in the summer.
