The kids weren’t able to prevent the Macunians from taking at least something from the big weekend.
Liverpool have a major league fixture tomorrow as they seek to join Manchester City as the only remaining teams with perfect records by handing Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United another loss. It will be the biggest test for Liverpool in this new young season and I’m sure all Kopites are waiting with massive anticipation to see if Arne Slot’s new look Liverpool can at least bring back the welcome familiarity of very good results in this fixture in the last few years of the Jurgen Klopp Era.
But before we get to do the main event, there’s a bit of an undercard: Liverpool and Manchester United’s respective U18s met in league play today. Liverpool’s youth set up - a combination of the recruitment and training philosophies - have yielded results that mark it as among the best in England, if not Europe, given the quality of players who’ve had top flight careers over the last decade or so.
Unfortunately, though, the kids from Melwood were unable to bring home a result as they dropped the fixture today, 2-nil. It’s a tough loss though one might point to United’s own youth set up as perhaps one to watch given the likes of Marcus Rashford and, more recently, Alejandro Garnacho.
Here’s hoping the senior team take all three points tomorrow, ensuring we keep pace with City and exacting a bit of revenge against a hated rival in the process.
