166 Liverpool have been linked with Villarreal’s Alex Baena ahead of the January transfer window.
According to 90Min, Jurgen Klopp‘s Reds are among those teams showing an interest in the 22-year-old.
Liverpool – and a host of other big English clubs – have apparently watching Baena closely over the last 12 months or so.
The Reds are reportedly up against the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Barcelona in pursuit of the Spain international.
Baena, who reportedly has a £51million release clause, has made a real name for himself since breaking into the Villarreal team last season.
He registered 12 goals and six assists from 48 outings in all competitions.

His efforts led Jacek Kulig of Football Talent Scout to describe him as “one of the biggest revelations in Europe this season”.
Baena has kicked on this season, with four goals and six assists to his name from 20 club outings.
He also made his Spain debut in September, scoring in the 6-0 Euro 2024 qualifying win over Cyprus.
All in all, Baena looks like a good shout for Liverpool. He’s a top talent with his whole career ahead of him, and is also very versatile.
Although he has mostly been playing on the left flank, he has also featured in central midfield, at No. 10, as a second striker, and on the right wing.
In a different Football Talent Scout post, Kulig likened Baena to Liverpool cult hero Philippe Coutinho and rated his potential at 9 out of 10.
His strengths include pace, dribbling, passing, vision, technique, agility, flair, and first touch.
Liverpool could certainly do with adding more midfielders to their ranks, and Baena seems to fit the bill.
