After their five-year deal with Nike expires, Liverpool will return to Adidas as their kit supplier for the first time since 2012.
Liverpool’s next kit supplier will reportedly be Adidas, with the Reds set to return to the German sportswear giant once their five-year deal with Oregon-based Nike expires at the end of the 2024-25 football season.
The change will see Liverpool wearing the three stripes for the first time since 2012, when they left Adidas for New Balance subsidiary Warrior through 2015 before moving under the main New Balance banner until 2020 when they joined Nike.
Liverpool’s Nike deal that saw them receive a smaller set fee but a percentage of sales was unusual in football, with the Reds seeking to leverage Nike’s superior distribution channels to help grow their brand.
The results, though, met with mixed reviews as Nike moved to a lighter shade of red than New Balance had used towards the end of their run, made often eyebrow-raising template choices, and saw questions about material durability.
Details on leaks of the 2024-25 kit, including vertically oriented Nike swooshes and pinstripes that spell out YNWA, have further left many scratching their heads at a return to the kind of questionable design queues that marked the Warrior era.
For now, then, at least if the Sport Business reports are true, there will likely be excitement at the move away from Nike. At least until the first Adidas leaks drop next year and people start questioning their design choices.
