Reports from the Newcastle end have linked them with a move for Liverpool Jarell Quansah but the Reds’ plans for next season include the young centre half.

It’s the international break, and with the coming weekend designated for the FA Cup, Liverpool aren’t set to return to action until next Wednesday against Everton. With more than two weeks without club football, then, there’s a need to find things to talk about.

Mostly transfer things, unsurprisingly. The past week in particular has seen a flood of new stories outlining what Liverpool might do in the summer, and recent chatter from sources with ties to Newcastle has suggested that club is currently sniffing around Jarell Quansah.

However, those rumours have been quickly rebuffed by Liverpool, with club-connected journalists today insisting Quasah remains highly rated at the club, that the player is in their plans for the 2025-26 season, and that reports of a potential £30M fee are laughably low.

Quansah, along with Joe Gomez, was linked with Newcastle last season at a time when Anthony Gordon was speculated to perhaps be heading the other way. At the time, a £50M valuation was attached which, while high, reflected his upside and club trained status.

Since then, Quansah has signed a new long-term deal. If he is still seen as a potential future starter for the club at his position—something that was very much the case at this time last season—the idea of the 22-year-old being sold for £30M now does seem laughable.

That doesn’t, perhaps, make a sale impossible. While Liverpool appear to have moved on from Gordon, they’ve been heavily linked with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. If Quansah going the other way got that deal done at a palatable price, anything mightbe possible.

A sale for the sake of a sale, though—one undertaken to clear space for a new centre half signing or fund purchases at other positions—seems highly unlikely, and if Newcastle ever thought Quansah could be signed for around £30M it appears they were mistaken.
