One of Jürgen Klopp’s kids departs the club to join Pepijn Lijnders in Austria.
Liverpool are yet to make a first team signing despite the kickoff of the 2024-25 season being just days away and the close of the summer transfer window a little more than two weeks in the future, but that hasn’t stopped them agreeing player departures.
The latest sees 19-year-old midfielder Bobby Clark following former Liverpool assistant Pepijn Lijnders to RB Salzburg in Austria after widespread reports confirmed the two sides had agreed a £10M fee plus a 17.5% sell-on clause for the talented youngster.
Previously, Salzburg had seen a £10M offer for Clark rejected, but that sell-on clause as well as a reported right of refusal that would allow the Reds to match and buy him back should he sold on by Salzburg while under contract appear to have got the deal done.
Clark joined Liverpool’s academy relatively late, signing from Newcastle in 2021 for £1.5M. After making his first team debut in 2022-23, he made a dozen first team appearances in 2023-24 including rather memorably in the League Cup final against Chelsea.
While Liverpool’s depth in the middle of the park and the chance to join Lijnders at his new club may have helped convince the player of the move, for fans the departure of a talented youngster may not sit well given the lack of any first team signings so far.
