With the Premier League grinding to a halt due to the World Cup, Liverpool can take stock and plan for the rest of the season.

The January transfer window is also on the horizon. And the Reds could well delve into the market in order to bolster their ranks.

Midfield is a particularly pressing issue for Liverpool due to injuries, ageing legs and contracts set to expire in the summer.

Now, according to Sports World Ghana, the Reds have set their sights on a top talent who shines in both midfield and attack.

The player in question is Mohammed Kudus, one of the most highly rated young players in the game.

‘I’m a player who likes to challenge himself’

Sports World Ghana reports that Liverpool scouts will be watching the Ajax ace tomorrow as Ghana face Portugal in their World Cup opener.

The Reds are apparently hopeful they can bring Kudus to Anfield in January. However, they will likely face stiff competition for his signature.

As well as Liverpool, the likes of Everton, AC Milan, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are reportedly pursuing the 22-year-old.

Kudus is enjoying a real breakthrough season in the Netherlands after he was seemingly close to leaving Ajax over the summer.

The attacking midfielder has scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 21 appearances for the Eredivisie champions.

Kudus is also incredibly versatile, having played in a variety of positions including attacking midfield, up front, and at right wing.

Better still for Liverpool, he suggested last week that he’s open to a move away from the Netherlands in future.

When asked by Algemeen Dagblad whether he’s now committed to a long-term future at Ajax, he replied: “Not necessarily.

“I’m a player who likes to challenge himself. This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings.

“The most important thing is that I just keep performing for the team, and the rest will follow naturally later.”

‘He has a lot of quality’

Kudus would be a great shout for Liverpool, as he can fill in at midfield and in attack.

Erik ten Hag has previously described Kudus as an “incredible talent“.

And Ajax’s Daley Blind has compared his club teammate to Barcelona and Netherlands ace Frenkie de Jong.

“He can play a man and make a gear,” Blind told Ajax TV in 2020, via Football Ghana.

“He is quite a bit like Frenkie in that respect.

“You can just see that he has a lot of quality. I think he will certainly help us on our way. He is a good player.”

On Twitter, fans have compared Kudus to Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard, Gabriel Jesus and ‘prime Firmino‘.
