Liverpool are enjoying a fine season in Jurgen Klopp’s final Anfield campaign and remain on course to win multiple trophies this term.
The Reds have already won the Carabao Cup and remain in the hunt for the Premier League title, the Europa League and the FA Cup.
Liverpool have also made moves behind the scenes. Michael Edwards has become FSG’s CEO of Football and Richard Hughes is set to become the Reds’ new technical director next season.
Although Liverpool have done well to maintain continuity within their entire squad, there could well be new additions in the summer transfer window.
Now, according to football journalist Patrick Berger, the Reds are eyeing an exciting 20-year-old likened to Anfield cult hero Sadio Mane.
The player in question is PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko, who has been lighting up the Eredivisie in recent years.
Photo by Photo Prestige/Soccrates/Getty ImagesBerger, writing on X earlier this week, said: “Johan Bakayoko is a summer top target for European top clubs.
“Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Paris and BVB are monitoring his situation. Contract until 2027, no release clause.
“Price tag: €50-60m (£43-51m). Brentford €40m bid in winter was rejected by PSV Eindhoven.”
Why Liverpool should consider signing Johan Bakayoko
Bakayoko looks like a good shout for a Liverpool side eager to maintain their world-class standards as a new era beckons.
The 20-year-old is a regular for PSV, with eight goals and 13 assists from 40 competitive club outings this season. He also has nine caps for Belgium.
In terms of his style of play, scouting outlet Foot The Ball wrote last April: “Bakayoko is a player with all the traits of a proper winger.
“However, the player has shown incredible maturity in adding other skills to his arsenal, including his fantastic deployment of the high press.
“The attacker spends considerable time behind the half-line helping his team out defensively. In fact, his skills and high work rate are pretty similar to a certain Sadio Mane.”
Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has likened Bakayoko to Chelsea’s Madueke, while Adrian Clarke said he’s similar in style to Arsenal’s Saka and Fabrizio Romano has deemed him elite.
All in all, Bakayoko looks like a star in the making, and as such, Liverpool should certainly consider moving for him this summer.
