Liverpool have reportedly set their sights on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah ahead of the January transfer window.
According to 90Min, the Reds feel a deal could be done for the 27-year-old in the coming weeks.
Liverpool apparently also believe that the Germany international could seamlessly slot into the side if and when required.
The Reds could certainly do with bolstering their defensive ranks in wake of Joel Matip’s anterior cruciate ligament injury earlier this month.
Although Jurgen Klopp has played down the prospect of signing a replacement centre-back, there’s certainly scope to do so in the coming weeks.
The Liverpool manager’s current options are Virgil van Dijk, the injury-prone Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez, and the relatively inexperienced Jarell Quansah.
Liverpool would be signing one of the fastest defenders in the world in Jonathan Tah
Meanwhile, Tah has been in great form for Leverkusen, but speculation regarding his future never seems that far away.
With his contract running until the summer of 2025, the January transfer window could be the last one in which the club could command a significant fee.
Fabrizio Romano recently said on X that Tah had an €18million (£15million) release clause last summer, but this was reported to have expired.
However, Kicker then reported in the summer that the 6ft 4in powerhouse shouldn’t cost much more than that going forward.

The ‘dominant‘ player has over 300 senior appearances for Leverkusen and has won 16 caps for Germany.
Joachim Low previously deemed him a “physically strong and very quick” defender for whom “everything is possible”.
It’s worth mentioning that, as per the Bundesliga website, Tah’s top speed this season is 35.81km/h, making him the fourth-fastest in the division.
By comparison, Luis Diaz’s fastest last season was 35.52km/h. And Kieran Tierney – the fastest defender in the league last term – was only marginally faster, at 35.99km/h.
