Liverpool are currently on the lookout for a new manager ahead of Jurgen Klopp leaving Anfield at the end of the season.
The 56-year-old, whose Reds contract was due to run until the summer of 2026, attributed his decision to “running out of energy”.
A number of names have been doing the rounds with regards to the soon-to-be-vacant Liverpool hotseat over the past few weeks.
Liverpool have been linked with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso since Klopp‘s announcement. However, he’s not the only name in the picture.
The Reds are apparently also eyeing Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, according to Gianluigi Longari of TV Dello Sport.

“Among the alternatives taken into consideration by Liverpool, the name of Ruben Amorim currently managing Sporting stands out.”
Liverpool target Ruben Amorim deemed a potential ‘new Pochettino’
If the Reds don’t manage to get their hands on Alonso, then Amorim would also be a good shout for the Anfield hotseat.
The 39-year-old has proven himself to be a “supercoach” and an “incredible” young manager with a bright future in the game.
Last year, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher actually urged Tottenham Hotspur – when they were still looking for Antonio Conte’s replacement – to consider him.
“They need the new Pochettino if you like,” he said on The Overlap.
“A younger coach who thinks they are going to build something over four or five years, because they never the money Man City or Chelsea will have to completely change a season.
“Who that is, I’m not sure – maybe it’s the guy at Brighton, he looks really good, it looks like they are going for Nagelsmann, he’s a young manager and there is a guy at Sporting Lisbon who people are talking about, the new Portuguese coach.
“I think someone of that ilk, rather than a big name manager who wants a lot of funds and just wants to stay there for two years.”
In terms of what Liverpool fans could expect from Amorim, Braga head of recruitment Paulo Meneses told The Athletic in 2022: “His playing style is clearly pragmatic.
“He is a studious coach, with a great capacity for work and a lot of intuition. In addition, he is a born leader, with great communication skills, both internally and externally.
“He is contagious with his will to win and with the conviction that only with hard work from everyone is this possible. Group work is really a crucial point of Ruben Amorim’s philosophy.”
Surely it won’t be long before a big career move beckons for Amorim, so it’s good to hear that Liverpool apparently have him in their sights.
