Liverpool have been linked with a multitude of midfielders over the past few months.

The Reds are reportedly on the lookout to bolster their ranks amid expiring contracts and ageing legs.

One of those is a player who Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has previously described as a “really top” talent.

The player in question is Napoli and Poland star Piotr Zielinski.

According to Rudy Galetti, the 28-year-old is one of the midfielders on Liverpool’s radar.

Zielinski is a name Liverpool fans will be familiar with, as he delivered a masterclass against the Reds earlier this season.

Back in September, Napoli ran out 4-1 winners over Jurgen Klopp’s side in Italy.

Zielinski was unplayable on the day, scoring a brace and registering an assist against the Anfield outfit.

The former Udinese ace has experience at the highest level, with over 300 Napoli appearances under his belt.

He has also won 89 caps for Poland, and has played at two World Cups and two European Championships.

Zielinski is a superb passer of the ball, links up attack and defence well, and has a good goal contribution tally.

Previous reports suggested that the midfielder, whose contract runs until 2024, has a €40million (£36million) price tag.

Bruno Fernandes: ‘I like him a lot’

Fernandes played alongside Zielinski at Udinese in 2013/14.

Speaking to Canal Plus Sport in May 2021, the Red Devils and Portugal ace lauded his former teammate.

“Technically, I can say that Zielinski is better trained than I am,” Fernandes said, via Breaking The Lines.

“We had a good challenge.

“I think in the past, Zielinski was actually a bit shy. He was really young then, just like me, at that time.

“However, we came from different countries, different mentality, and it was different for both of us.

“I have a really good relationship with Piotr. He’s a top guy, I like him a lot.

“He is one of the people I met in Italy with whom I am in touch all the time.

“I spoke to him a few months ago and told him that I would like to play with him again.

“So, who knows what the future has waiting for us. For me, he is a really, really top player.”
