This summer is set to bring about a lot of change at Liverpool FC, with both manager and director of football expected to leave Anfield at the end of the season.
Unsurprisingly, a host of coaches and directors have been linked with a switch to Liverpool to replace Jurgen Klopp and Jorg Schmadtke.
For instance, Xabi Alonso is said to be the Reds’ prime candidate for the manager’s hotseat as he continues to shine at Bayer Leverkusen.
And while Michael Edwards is said to be a target for Liverpool with regards to the director of football position, he’s not the only name in the proverbial hat.
Bournemouth first-team technical director Richard Hughes is also said to be a target for the Reds.
Earlier this week, his current employers confirmed that the 44-year-old will be leaving the Vitality Stadium in the summer.

Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Hughes’ future alongside Liverpool’s interest in his services.
“Richard Hughes remains strong candidate for role in Liverpool new board,” Romano wrote on X.
“Interest still there since months ago; now he’s confirmed plan to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.
“It will depend on other appointments in #LFC structure but Hughes is on club’s list.”
Hughes is actually close friends with Edwards, and there have been suggestions that he could work alongside his mate at Liverpool.
Interestingly, a story from The Times claims the Glaswegian already knows what club he will join this summer, with Roma also keen on his signature.
Hughes has enjoyed an “incredibly successful” tenure at Bournemouth over the past six years, with club owner and chairman Bill Foley hailing his “outstanding service”.
Liverpool target Richard Hughes will be ‘one of the best’ in the industry
In 2021, Paul Groves – Hughes’ former manager at Grimsby – backed him to go very far in football behind the scenes.
“Richard is destined to be at a top club at some point,” the Daily Record quoted him as saying.
“Whether that turns out to be Celtic or another club, that is where he will end up because of the qualities that he is.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s Celtic. But if it’s not it will be another top club in the near future.
“He will turn up somewhere, 100 per cent. I would say that it’s guaranteed.
“It’s huge to have someone talented in that role as it’s one of the most vital jobs in a football club.
“In my experience of dealing with Richard, speaking with him and working with him, he’ll be one of the best.
“Richard has a host of strengths. It’s dedication, it’s knowledge, it’s professionalism and it’s also his manner.
“There are so many qualities he has that fit into that role perfectly.”
