Liverpool haven’t even spoken about hiring ‘incredibly successful’ manager to replace Klopp - journalist

Jurgen Klopp is leaving Liverpool at the end of this season, and there’s been plenty of chat around who will replace the German this summer.

Pretty much every manager under the sun has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

Well, almost every manager.

Indeed, there’s one high-profile out-of-work manager who has barely even been mentioned in connection with this job.

The big-name manager who isn’t being mentioned by Liverpool

A few years ago, Antonio Conte was the hottest managerial property around, but now, he’s very much seen as damaged goods.

His time at Tottenham did his reputation no favours at all, and according to Oli Kay, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Conte isn’t even featuring in conversations at Liverpool right now.

“I’ve seen Thomas Tuchel linked, perhaps he’s less likely for the same reason. People like Antonio Conte who is an incredibly successful manager, out of work, aren’t even featuring in this conversation because of that reason as well,” Kay said.

Antonio Conte might never get another big Premier League job

Antonio Conte’s managerial stock has fallen dramatically over the past 12 months, and we wouldn’t be shocked at all if we’ve seen the last of Conte in the Premier League at the top level.

The Italian now has this reputation of being too combustible, and while that worked when he was winning titles, his style of play at Tottenham seemed to be really tired and past its sell-by date.

There’s a reason Conte isn’t a part of the discussion at Liverpool, this is a manager who often leaves his clubs in worse shape than he found them, and if Liverpool were to hire Conte, it could be an absolute disaster.

Conte is a great coach when the circumstances are right, but it’s not easy to get things set up to favour the Italian.
