Liverpool are being linked with Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier ahead of the January transfer window.
According to BILD journalist Christian Falk, the Reds are one of several Premier League clubs keeping tabs the 21-year-old.
However, Falk – writing on CaughtOffside – stressed that Liverpool don’t see him as a “first-choice” target.
Brighton appear to be ahead of the Reds, while Brentford and Nottingham Forest are reportedly also in pursuit.
The reporter also compared Beier to Thomas Muller in that he’s versatile, adding that he’s also a “very, very fast” player.
‘Would suit Liverpool’
Falk wrote: “I heard that Liverpool are still monitoring Maximilian Beier. He’s got a release clause of over €32.5million.
“I heard Liverpool are watching him but they’re not sure whether he would help them immediately.
“So, I think Brighton’s interest is comparatively more concrete, and there’s interest from Brentford and Nottingham Forest on top of that.

“It’s a little bit like Thomas Muller in the sense that he’s not exactly a winger or central striker; he can also play behind the No.9, so he’s quite a versatile footballer.
“He’s very, very fast as well, so that would suit Liverpool, but he’s not the first choice.”
Liverpool keeping tabs on Maximilian Beier
Even though Liverpool are currently well-stocked in attack, Beier is an exciting young talent with a lot to offer the Reds and his whole career ahead of him.
The Germany Under-21 international – who reportedly has a £28million release clause – mainly operates at centre-forward but can also play as a winger on either flank if required.
He has already established himself as one of Hoffenheim’s most important players this season and has six goals and four assists from 15 Bundesliga outings.
With a reported price tag of less than £30million, Liverpool could potentially land a top talent ahead of many top competitors.
As for Hoffenheim, selling Beier would provide them with a decent sum of money that they can reinvest.
