The Premier League run-in is now in full swing, and Liverpool remain in the fight for the Premier League title, as well as the Europa League trophy.
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds returned to the top of the Premier League table on Thursday, now sitting two poinrs clear of second-placed Arsenal.
Liverpool, who have already won the Carabao Cup this season, also remain in contention for the Europa League, with Atalanta coming up in the quarter-finals.
The Reds and FSG have also been busy making backroom changes to ensure continuity after Jorg Schmadtke’s departure and ahead of Klopp’s summer exit.
On top of that, the summer transfer window is edging closer, which means Liverpool will likely be casting an eye to potential signings for when the market opens.
As one of the biggest clubs in the world, the Reds will no doubt be looking at some of the best players out there to strengthen their ranks.
And this week, a report has emerged suggesting Liverpool are preparing a club-record bid for a player with a £871million release clause.

If accepted, it would see the Reds smash their club record transfer fee, which currently stands at £75million, which they spent on Virgil van Dijk back in January 2018.
Although Darwin Nunez could become Liverpool’s club record signing (£85million if clauses are met), they initially spent £64million on the Uruguay international.
Who is Liverpool target Federico Valverde?
Speaking of Uruguayans, Valverde is one of Nunez’s teammates in the ranks of the two-time world champions. The two have played together 20 times for Uruguay.
Valverde is a player of the highest calibre, with 246 competitive Real Madrid outings to his name as well as 56 caps for Uruguay.
The ‘complete‘ Bernabeu ace has won a multitude of trophies over the past few years, including one Champions League and two La Liga titles.
Valverde is also very versatile, having played at No. 6, No. 8 and No. 10, as well as on both wings and even as a right-back throughout his time at Madrid.
His style of play has been likened to that of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. Indeed, Valverde welcomed such comparisons.
Back in October 2022, The Mirror quoted him as saying: “It’s spectacular when you are compared to such a player, to a star, a world idol, not just a Liverpool one. It’s amazing.
“I see characteristics of him, obviously, I’m not going to say no, but one always looks out for one self.
“I also want to leave my name and my mark in the world of football, not just Madrid but in the national team.”
This could be an interesting transfer lead to follow. With Kylian Mbappe being linked to Real and Endrick also set to head to the Bernabeu, the club may just be willing to part company with Valverde to make room for any high-profile new arrivals.
