The short-term sporting direct could be staying for longer, according to Christian F
According to reports, Liverpool could be in talks with Jorg Schmadtke to extend his stay at Liverpool as the Sporting Director. Christian Falk, a German journalist, reports that Jurgen Klopp “trusts” Schmadtke and that Liverpool could open talks to keep him on.
“As far as Liverpool are concerned,” Falk says, translated via SportsWitness, “Jorg Schmadtke is the transfer expert and friend of Jurgen Klopp and supposed to conduct transfer business until the end of the transfer window.
“Schmadtke has a contract until the summer as sporting director but that ends at the end of June, i.e. before the next transfer window. That’s why, according to my information, they will perhaps sit down in March or February and discuss whether things should continue.
“The fact is, Klopp trusts Schmadtke and if they are definitely still together, they will see what they can get on the table and maybe strike another agreement again.”
The original agreement between Schmadtke and Liverpool had the German staying just for one year. It was reported at the time that Liverpool wanted a short-term stay so they could get their house in order before hiring a permanent sporting director.
